Since 1965 the Chiltern Hills have been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Chilterns are of course a splendid range of chalk hills and beech woods spanning the counties of Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire. Just a dozen or so miles north-west of London the Chilterns have long been protected as green belt and are now a designated AONB.
